Academic Writing Theory and Praxis MFLT7300
This course focuses on developing a working definition for academic writing, with the understanding that academic language is a foreign language for everyone. Readings, discussions, and papers will reflect the development of students' understanding and practical application of that understanding to their own academic writing, as well as the teaching of academic writing. For the final project, students will analyze a piece of academic writing using the Appraisal framework (Martin & White, 2005) within Systemic Functional Linguistics.
This course is available in the Graduate School of Languages and Linguistics for masters and doctoral students.
Course offered every spring semester.
